So I was browsing the internet and learned of a really simple modification to the yeasu ft2900r mobile 2m transceiver. The radio comes stock with the abilty to receive from 136-174 MHz but will only transmit on the 2m ham band. Performing this mod, according to what I read, unlocks it for tx on I believe the entire rx range.. I was wondering if anyone on here ever heard of or performed this mod.. and yes I have legal reasons to do so..
Modified as follows:
Remove the bottom cover of the radio.
Carefully unplug and remove the speaker.
Remove all 3 of the knobs from the front of the radio.
You will need a metric allen wrench to remove the 3 front panel screws.
Carefully pull the front face of the radio away from the body being careful not to disconnect the ribbon cable.
Look inside of the front cover for 3 pads (see picture)
Two of them are not solder jumpered and one is.
De-solder the only pad that is jumped with a solder bead.
While powering up the radio press and hold the
DW REV – A/N LOW – MW D/MR buttons simultaneously to perform a full reset. Confirm the reset when prompted by pushing MW D/MR.

Will this mod work on a FT-2980r?
ReplyDeleteYou should tune your antenna for the proper frequency, or the SWR could be very high outside of the ham band
ReplyDeletecan confirm, did this just 5 minutes ago on my yeasu ft2980r and it worked flawlessly, just do exactly what this guide says and youre good to go
